Each summer many participating companies underwrite internships for deserving Plano area nonprofits. All interns are rising juniors and seniors at any Plano public high school, have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average (at least 85%), have a solid attendance record and attend a mandatory Internship Prep training day. The sponsorship includes the intern’s payroll, payroll expenses and luncheon tickets for your intern and their supervisor. To be placed on the Nonprofit Intern Wait list, please submit the nonprofit application by February 15.
If selected, your organization will be notified by April 1, 2017. Intern placements are based upon availability of sponsorships.
As a nonprofit, your program commitment includes:
- Hosting an intern at your organization this summer for 20 to 40 hours per week from June 12 through August 4. Participating nonprofits will be required to provide a description/mission of your nonprofit, a brief job description and the physical location of the internship on the application.
- Attending the Job Fair on April 28 to interview potential intern candidates. Resumes of potential intern candidates will be provided to the nonprofit prior to the Job Fair.
- Placing the intern on your organization’s payroll and paying the intern the recommended minimum rate of $9 per hour. Participating nonprofits are issued a one-time check from the program covering the intern’s salary and estimated administrative and onboarding costs.
- Joining your intern and Mayor LaRosiliere at the 2017 Mayor’s Summer Internship Program Luncheon on Monday, July 31 at the Hilton Granite Park. We’ll celebrate a successful summer and acknowledge our achievements together!
