The Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program’s mission is to empower today’s dreamers to become tomorrow’s leaders. The program provides rising juniors and seniors with life-changing, meaningful work experiences during paid, summer internships. This year, the eight-week internships will run from June 10 through August 2.
While the internship program is open to all qualifying students, students who may be the first in their family to go to college or those who are participating in the AVID program are highly encouraged to participate.
Prior to the beginning of actual internships, students are provided with exemplary work readiness training, including a mandatory Internship Prep training day focusing on resume development, interviewing skills, professional dress and business communication. Other training is provided to selected interns and includes such enrichment topics as developing a personal brand, behavioral communication skills, team building skills and personal goal planning.
Companies interview potential intern candidates at a real-life, competitive Job Fair. Interns are selected in May. Both employers and their interns join Mayor LaRosiliere at a celebration luncheon at the close of the program.
