Combining Plano’s vibrant business community with a nationally recognized school district, the Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program is a paid, summer high school internship program designed to connect motivated rising juniors and seniors with exceptional local companies.
Successful transition into college and future careers
Vision & Skills
Since 2014, the inaugural year for the program, over 900 Plano high school students have received internships at small and large companies, nonprofits and governmental agencies throughout the city. Providing life-changing, real work experiences, these internships have helped build the vision and the skills needed for students to successfully transition into college and into future careers. And for participating companies, the Mayor’s Summer Internship Program has proved to be a rewarding investment in the area’s future workforce — showing interns that their hometown is more than a starting point, it is a career destination.
Along with invaluable life lessons provided to student interns, it is the goal of the Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program to offer as many internships as possible during the summer. We hope your organization, whether large or small, will choose to host at least one intern in the summer of 2024.
Feedback from our Intern Partners.
"Incredible experience!! Due to Covid-19 we had to convert and retool to change to an on-site summer adventure camp for our kids to a virtual platform. Our interns worked independently, and the results were incredible. "

"I was very impressed with our intern’s resiliency, specifically, his ability to operate in a virtual environment. I was impressed with his technical expertise, specifically with putting together a web-based training module."

“Our interns were both flexible and adapted well to the unknown. Our interns were given an option to work remotely or in the office.”

“This summer our interns were both very on top of their assignments, worked together to talk through things, and jumped into their projects without our staff having to hold their hands throughout the process. Because of their willingness to dive in, it worked well to let them try something, redirect them if needed, and keep the work moving.”

“At Ericsson, our interns exhibited diligent and innovative execution of assigned projects with a rapid learning curve. They also showed the flexibility to support our team members located across the globe.”
“PepsiCo’s intern did an amazing job this summer at our organization’s virtual internship. Her executive maturity, clear and concise presentation skills, and strong leadership ability will ensure her future in the workplace.”
